He’ll be playing some tunes during a lunchtime bash at Netherworld alongside Idiio, Electric Zebra and Machine Club. If you’re up at BIGSOUND, you can catch Diskodisco live this Thursday the 7th.

Grab a listen to Game Within A Game below: Again, that guy has a studio that most synth nerds can only dream of. He has an extremely rare ARP 2600 with the original filter in it. He has a video on Youtube of a little tour he does of his studio. But the standouts would be Aeroplane (Vito De Luca), he has an epic collection of old and new hardware. HAPPY: Do you have any artists that you really admire gear-wise?ĬHRIS: I have a few. They look as close to the original 80’s machines without the epic price tag! HAPPY: If you had to grab a new piece of gear, what would it be right now?ĬHRIS: I’m really loving the the re launch of all the Roland boutique gear. They’re so rich in sound straight out of the box you don’t really have to use any after effects. HAPPY: What’s the cheapest piece of gear you feel like you’ve gotten the best value out of?ĬHRIS: Definitely my Korg Volca Beats and Volca Bass. HAPPY: What are a few plugins you’re loving right now?ĬHRIS: I really love the V Collection for old school synths. I just use whatever I feel is right for the right tune. HAPPY: What are your thoughts on the software/hardware synth debate? Do you use both and is there a preference?ĬHRIS: I use both. HAPPY: What was the first synth you bought? If you’re not still using it, why?ĬHRIS: My first hardware synth I purchased was a Arturia Microbrute. I love loading them into a sampler and then adding different compression styles and effects. I now have a folder with over 30 different drum machines. HAPPY: Drum samples: where do you find them? Dare I ask how many you have saved up at this point?ĬHRIS: Over the years I’ve just collected my samples from old drum machines. Over the years as I’ve gotten more and more confident, I’ve tried to create my own sound from a preset.

Must have it, bought the whole damn synth just for that fat bass.CHRIS: I guess I always start out a project on a preset and then personalise or adapt it to what I’m going for. This is the most work I have ever put into releasing new music. I am so grateful for the love and support I have received while making this album. Getting Serum + Arturia V on splice is a pretty sick deal with the monthly plan btw. Parallel This is my debut LP and I am so happy to share it with you all. There are things a sampler can do that a synth can't (realistic guitars, super refined proven and successful audio samples) and things that a synth can do that a sampler can't (new sounds, original sounds, creativity that is yours)īeyond that it boils down to your personal preferences. In summary, one type creates waves that generate their own sound as you play it, the other type plays a pre-recorded wave (a sample). So because of this guitars are sampled instead. which we really can't synthesize a guitar with current technology. A good example of a rompler are Kontakt instruments, like guitars, bass guitars, etc. A rompler doesn't generate it's own sounds, it plays recorded samples. I don't own nexus so can't speak on it, it's a rompler though not a real synth. You need patients to learn, but once you do you will be better off then just jumping in with presets. You can pretty much make any sound in it if you learn to use it well enough.

Serum is the #1 VST on splice for a reason.

If your looking more into sound design and making your own waves and unique sounds, go with Serum. Both are outstanding and you wont be regretting it. I'd say if your looking for more relevant retro-wave presets go with DIVA or Arturia V collection. No one has mentioned Arturia V collection yet so I will.
